Hamish's Musical Journey
I’m Hamish Drennan, and for me, the bagpipes are more than an instrument—they are a lifelong connection to my roots. Growing up in the Scottish Highlands, I was inspired by my older brother and heavily encouraged by my Dad to play the pipes. I picked up the pipes at age nine and haven't stopped since.
My journey led me to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where I earned a degree in Traditional Music. Studying under the nation’s finest traditional musicians allowed me to refine my craft, blending deep technical expertise with the raw, emotional power that only the Highland pipes can deliver.
Today, I’m dedicated to keeping this proud legacy alive. Whether performing at an intimate wedding or teaching the next generation, I strive to create moments that feel truly eternal. It is my privilege to bring a piece of Scotland’s soul to your most significant celebrations.

Wedding - Guest Arrival
Set the tone for your wedding from the very first moment. As guests arrive, I perform at the entrance to your venue for up to 45 minutes, providing a traditional Scottish welcome and building anticipation until the bride makes her arrival. Enquire for quote.

Continue the celebration with the traditional highland piping after the ceremony, creating a memorable atmosphere as guests enjoy drinks and photographs.
Wedding - Grand Entrance

Teaching Experience
I am a passionate piping instructor with experience teaching pipers of all ages and abilities. I hold a degree in BMus Traditional Music (Piping) from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where I had the opportunity to receive world class tuition from leading pipers and musicians.
Over the years, I have taught at the National Piping Centre of Scotland, delivered intensive courses in Germany, and worked with pupils in person and online. I currently teach over 90 pupils a week across schools in Larkhall, the City of Edinburgh Council and through private tuition.
I enjoy creating a relaxed and encouraging environment where pipers can build confidence, develop their skills and most importantly enjoy playing the pipes. As the proud Pipe Major of Larkhall Youth Pipes and Drums, we achieved 4th place at our first time competing at the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships.
